Coach Randolph

Natalie Randolph was hired this summer as the new head coach for the Calvin Coolidge HS varsity football team in Washington, D.C. Since then, she’s been on a wild ride. Much has been made of the fact that she is the only active female head coach for any varsity football team in the country. The mayor of D.C., Adrian Fenty, declared the day she was hired “Natalie Randolph” day and there has been a flurry of media attention around her and her team, all while they’ve been preparing for the beginning of football season. Practice paid off earlier this month with the Coolidge Colts first win, 48-12 against Anacostia.

Natalie is no stranger to the gridiron. She played professionally for the D.C. Divas for six years and was an assistant coach at another D.C. area high school for two. Football is her love, but it’s also her commitment to her students that brought her to the position. “I want these kids to be prepared for everything,” she told NPR. “Athletics is a means to an end. I want them to be complete young men.”
